Frequently Asked Questions
What is pelvic floor physical therapy?Pelvic floor physical therapy provides care for women experiencing pelvic, pregnancy, postpartum, bladder, bowel, and sexual concerns. Treatment addresses the muscles, connective tissues, and movement patterns of the pelvic floor and surrounding body to restore strength, coordination, mobility, and function.
What should I expect in a session? Each session begins with a personalized assessment of your symptoms, movement, and goals. Treatment may include hands-on therapy, therapeutic exercise, breathing and core coordination, movement retraining, and education.
When appropriate and with your consent, internal pelvic floor assessment and treatment may be included. Every session is individualized, with your comfort, privacy, and goals at the center of your care.
What makes you different? We provide a truly one-on-one care with a whole-body approach to women’s health. Every treatment plan is individualized to your body, symptoms, lifestyle, and goals- not a one-size-fits-all protocol.
Our care is guided by specialized expertise in women’s health and advanced clinical training beyond the doctoral degree, allowing us to provide a deeper level of assessment and treatment for complex pelvic floor and women’s health concerns.
Do you accept insurance?Elevate is an out-of-network provider, which allows for more personalized, one-on-one care without the limitations dictated by insurance companies. We do accept HSA and FSA cards, and can provide a superbill for patients who would like to submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement through their insurance plan.
Medicare Beneficiaries: At this time, we are unable to treat Medicare beneficiaries. Federal Medicare regulations restrict how Medicare beneficiaries can receive and pay for physical therapy services outside of the Medicare system, which is not compatible with our private-pay model.
Should I cancel my appointment if I'm menstruating? You do not need to cancel your appointment if you are menstruating. Our physical therapist leaves the decision up to you and we always prioritize your comfort. External techniques can still be very effective during your period.
If you are on a heavy flow day, we can adjust the session to focus on external treatment and education. Please note that all cancellations must be completed outside of the 24-hour window to avoid a cancellation fee.
Do I need a referral to get started?Florida is a “direct access” state, which means that you can start physical therapy services without a physician’s referral.
However if you plan to seek out-of-network reimbursement, some insurance plans may require a physician’s referral or other documentation for reimbursement purposes.
